Portable Ambient Vibration Monitoring System

2021 • Skopje • Macedonia

Quick Facts

  • Add facts in ACF “Quick Facts”.

Challenge

Provide a portable, high-sensitivity monitoring solution that can capture ambient vibrations under natural operating conditions, enabling both research and inspection campaigns without requiring artificial excitation.

Solution

The deployment is based on the xDAS Ambient system, consisting of:

  • 8 xWave Ambient triaxial accelerometerс (32-bit, 0.7 µg/√Hz sensitivity) for high-precision vibration monitoring.
  • xPlorer Ambient as the central acquisition and processing module, delivered together with Voyager software for real-time data management.
  • Observer software suite for advanced analysis, enabling Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) to extract modal properties such as frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes.

The equipment is fully portable, battery-operated, and capable of recording ambient vibrations without requiring external excitation—ideal for on-site measurements across a wide variety of structures.

Outcomes

This deployment allows GIM to:

  • Conduct applied research projects and structural validation campaigns.
  • Support infrastructure inspections with reliable, precise datasets.
  • Provide educational opportunities and professional training in advanced SHM techniques.

Benefit from a portable, user-friendly solution that combines high sensitivity with robust data analysis capabilities.
