Underground Vibration Monitoring of Copper Pit

Quick Facts
- Add facts in ACF “Quick Facts”.
Challenge
Monitor vibration impacts in a highly hazardous deep-underground environment where conditions posed risks to both workers and equipment. Provide actionable information for safe blasting sequences under strict time and safety constraints.
Solution
The solution consisted of a 9-channel vibration monitoring system, designed for temporary deployment in difficult underground settings. The system was configured to:
- Capture ground vibrations during blasting operations.
- Assess safe distances for mine series detonations.
- Determine maximum allowable explosive loads for simultaneous initiation.
Outcomes
The monitoring campaign delivered critical safety data to mining engineers, allowing for the optimization of blasting operations without compromising worker safety. Despite being temporary, the deployment proved effective in hazardous deep-underground conditions, ensuring both safety compliance and operational continuity.
