Challenge

The primary challenge for Digitex Systems was the real-time capture and analysis of blast-induced ground vibrations and air overpressure. Moreover, we designed it to enable operators to optimize blast design, timing, and energy distribution, ensuring efficient mining operations without compromising the safety of nearby infrastructure and residential areas.

Solution

We installed the Structural Health Monitoring system across five (5) distributed locations, each equipped with an xCAS acquisition unit as part of the Sentry platform. Following is the full configuration and equipment:
  • xRover multichannel central acquisition with digitizer.
  • D-Series analog triaxial accelerometers for ground vibration monitoring.
  • G110-T analog triaxial geophones for precise velocity measurements of ground motion and structural vibrations
  • Displacement transducers for tracking cracking and structural deformation.
  • Environmental sensors for air temperature and humidity.
  • xPlorer Premium with Voyager software as the central acquisition and data management unit.
  • Observer software suite for advanced analysis, applying Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) to extract modal properties such as natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes.
All data is synchronized and stored in an SQL database and made available through a web-based reporting system. This way, we ensure continuous access for both operators and stakeholders.

Outcomes

This SHM system delivers reliable, high-resolution insights into the effects of blasting activities on surrounding infrastructure and terrain stability. Real-time monitoring enables the early detection of excessive vibration or air-blast levels. On the other hand, the automated reporting supports regulatory compliance and operational traceability.
Beyond safety assurance, the data collected by the customer is used to optimize blasting sequences and parameters by correlating ground vibration and air-blast responses with process efficiency. In this manner, we helped the Zinjin Mining Corporation in achieving an optimal balance between blasting performance, operational productivity, and controlled environmental impact.
