Ambient Vibration Measurements – Services

Ongoing • Europe

Quick Facts

  • Add facts in ACF “Quick Facts”.

Challenge

Deploy reliable and fast monitoring services that capture the dynamic response of structures without artificial excitation, ensuring accurate condition assessments and compliance with engineering standards.

Solution

The service is delivered using the xDAS Ambient system, consisting of:

  • xWave Ambient triaxial accelerometer channels (in large numbers, depending on project scale) for high-sensitivity vibration monitoring.
  • xPlorer Ambient as the central acquisition and processing module, provided together with Voyager software for real-time monitoring and data management.
  • Observer software suite for advanced data analysis, applying Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) to extract modal properties such as frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes.

The system is fully portable, battery-operated, and capable of capturing ambient vibrations without requiring artificial excitation. This ensures reliable measurements under natural operating conditions.

Outcomes

  • Condition assessment of existing structures under natural usage and loads or after significant events like earthquakes and accidents.
  • Academic and research work, offering high-quality datasets for analysis.
  • Planning of maintenance or retrofit projects, ensuring interventions are targeted and cost-efficient.

This ongoing service enhances the safety and reliability of infrastructure while enabling a proactive approach to long-term asset management.
