External Sensors Digitizer Unit
xSense® is a flexible external sensor digitizer unit. We designed it to extend the capabilities of Digitex Systems’ Structural Health Monitoring Sentry System by integrating a wide variety of analog sensors. All in all, the xSense enables civil engineers to capture structural and environmental parameters. More precisely, some of these parameters include displacement, inclination, temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, and much more. This way, the xSense complements our digital accelerometer-based monitoring with broader insights into structural health and condition monitoring.
In essence, the xSense supports voltage, current, and RTD sensor inputs, and can virtually integrate any analog sensor into the fully digital SHM ecosystem. Each external sensor digitizer unit provides high-quality A/D conversion at the sensor site, ensuring low-noise digitization and reliable real-time streaming to the Voyager® central acquisition software. Moreover, the xSense utilizes a rugged IP67 aluminum enclosure, delivering dependable performance in the harshest environments.
We built the xSense on a modular platform that supports different ADC options to accommodate various sensor types. Additionally, the device incorporates 16-bit ADCs with up to 16 channels, 24-bit ADCs with a mix of voltage and current inputs, and RTD-specific ADCs for temperature sensors (PT100/PT1000). In this way, the external sensor digitizer offers the flexibility of a universal interface for connecting third-party sensors into Digitex SHM networks.
Likewise, our sensor digitizer unit provides Ethernet connectivity as standard, with optional Wi‑Fi, DigiMESH®, and GSM/4G communication modules. Advanced Store&Forward® capability ensures no data is lost during connectivity disruptions, while proprietary Digitex compression and MiniSEED compatibility optimize bandwidth and storage. With GPS or DigiSync® time synchronization, xSense aligns seamlessly with other Sentry System devices, guaranteeing accurate and synchronized measurements across distributed networks.
